I Thought You Should Know

Since January when I launched From Yoga To High Heels, I have written about many different topics. The one topic I have not written about is love, or so you may have thought. I’ve done it in a mysterious…or at least I’d like to think; mysterious way. I have shared my journeys of love through my poetry. True, some of my poems are self reflection, but the majority of them are about men who have been important to me in my life. Some people write about their relationships in great detail, but I feel the relationship of love is extremely personal. Regardless of how the relationship ended, not to mention the ups and downs that happen in every relationship, I would rather honor the experience.

Up until six years a go, poetry was something that was foreign to me. I have always loved it, but writing poetry was not a tool I knew I had. I met a man, being around him, my body sang, I felt lifted, I felt like we had known each other in past lives, and I could daydream about our now new future together! Moonlight Ride, the first poem I wrote, was born shortly there after. It came to me like a song, because of the dance I experienced through the vessel, that is me. From there I couldn’t put my pencil down. Slowly I began to share a poem here and there and the feedback was positive. People encouraged me to keep writing, and so, I did. This man had opened up a part of me, an explosion of passion with a means to express. There was no going back. After the film, A Voice To The Writer, is launched in September, I will be beginning the process of publishing my first book of poems, Wild As The Wind.

Looking back, at seventeen years old I had a very different idea about the woman I was going to be. Who knew that I would be writing poetry? Who knew so many things, really? I don’t know that any one person could say, that they are exactly who they thought they were going to be. Isn’t that fabulous to have all of these surprise discoveries about ourselves! Who knows what’s left to learn about yourself or myself! There may be a hidden talent that you possess! The possibilities are endless. We may love movies, we may love stories, but isn’t the greatest voyage, the discovery or our life, our self? Let’s make a pact. To be brave. To be bold. To love endlessly and fearlessly. To keep open to discovery.

The Power Of Gemstones

Getting ready to make the film, I have been attending several meetings, getting everything ready to go! Today was a fun meeting, if you can even call it that. One of my girlfriend’s, Janick, has recently begun to make beautiful necklaces upon returning from her trip to Thailand with her beau Riley. Last week we were finally able to get together, and she brought one of her necklaces out to show me over our wine and cheese feast. I mentioned that I thought one of her necklaces’ would be perfect for the film, and she said, ‘well, I’ll make you one.’ I said, ‘deal.’ So, today we went on a little excursion and after pining over what I have claimed to be the perfect collection of beads to make a beautiful and powerful necklace; here is a photo for you to see. It is important to pick them up and feel them in the palm of your hand, to look at the different shapes and sizes; to see what feels best for you. It may sound a little ooga booga, but so what, it’s fun, it’s worth it, and I believe these steps to be true!

The first step was picking the beads. The beads I picked, are actually a seed from the Rainforest. Showing colors of honey and chocolate brown. These beads are my foundation. From there I chose Rose Quartz which you can see propped here, in the center of the photo. The piece is both elegant, strong, and complex in structure. It is a stone of warmth and love. It also heals emotional wounds and pain with it’s gentle calming salve. Opens the heart to the beauty within and all around us.

Thirdly, I chose the elegant White Turquoise; the stone of wisdom and spiritual journeys. It represents protection, energy, wisdom, serenity, wholeness, self expression, creativity, peace of mind, emotional balance, good luck, spiritual grounding, honest communication, friendship, love and loyalty.

Lastly, I went back to a gemstone I have always loved; Moonstone. The stone of emotional balance. Moonstone represents the great Mother Goddess.  Her strength lies in her gentleness, and her ability to experience, process, and neutralize her feelings. A stone of wishes, intuition, and balance.

I can hardly wait to see the finished product; what a super fun afternoon!

Exciting News – We’re Making A Film.

I wanted to share some fun and exciting news with you! Back In April when I was in Vancouver, BC celebrating my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary, I was reading Patti Smith’s, ‘Just Kids.’Not only was I unbelievably inspired and moved, I realized how lazy I had become as an artist. I asked myself a few questions. What happened to doing something creative every day? What happened to doing something for my art every day? I used to do that.

I had been entertaining the idea of writing a short film for my blog, but thinking and doing, are two very different things. Well….it’s time! I have written my first film, and I am excited to share with you that we will be shooting it this month! I wanted to give you guys, A Voice To The Writer, which is exactly what the name of the film is. I am also proud to announce that I will be working with Chris Comrie and Samantha Swan of Ardent Pictures. It’s going to be a fun and exotic shoot. Here’s a toast to Miss Patti Smith and to every artist out there, here we go.

“In art and dream may you proceed with abandon. In life may you proceed with balance and stealth. For nothing is more precious than the life force and may the love of that force guide you as you go.”
Patti Smith, Early Work, 1970-1979
